A Breath of Fresh Air (the basics of green energy)
In the last month I have wondered what it would take for America to wake up and reclaim it history, it’s nature, it’s consciousness. What are we leaving for the next generation? In 1997, importing fossil fuels sent $65 billion dollars outside of our country. When renewable energy resources are developed at right here at home billions of dollars stay here, creating more jobs for Americans. Our children’s future depends on the technological advancements of these energy sources. Our National Security is strengthened as our dependency for foreign oil is decreased. By moving toward renewable energies, we naturally shift toward freedom from unstable ground. One of the simplest ways you can have a direct impact on global warming and the environment is by powering your home with green energy. Green power is generated from renewable energy sources like wind, sun, hydro, geothermal and some forms of biomass. Every purchase you make, every product you use determines in what condition we leave our planet for our children. So let reclaim our future and get the energy really flowing in America.
It is not as hard as it may sound. The first, make the easy choice of what kind of electricity you want to use – descriptions are below to assist you in making a more informed choice.
Renewable energy systems convert the energy found in sunlight, wind, falling water, waves, geothermal heat, into a form we can use, such as heat or electricity. Historically, renewable energy was used exclusively as man’s energy source until coal was first used in the 13th century, oil in the end of the 19th century and uranium in the middle of the 20th century.
Using renewable sources of energy promotes sustainable living and is virtually pollution free. Renewable sources of energy are economically feasible in small scale applications in remote locations (off the grid homes) or in large scale applications in areas where the resource is abundant and can be harnessed by giant conversion systems such as the hydro projects of the TVA or wind farms.
About Wind Energy
Harnessing wind energy was one of man’s earliest achievements. Small windmills pumped water in ancient Syria and sailing ships used wind power to first circumnavigate the globe. The modern use of wind turbines originated in the 17th Century where the Renaissance Dutch used wind power to recover hundreds of thousands of acres of land. These machines covered the continent,
